I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is water still leaking, turn off the service valve to the appliance or fixture if you can, or go straight to the main water valve for your home. If you’re unable to find a water valve to turn off, then you can try turning on all the cold water taps inside and outside your home to depressurise the system and minimise the leak.

Once you have stopped the leak from worsening, give our emergency plumber a call, at any hour of the day or night. We will be there quickly to solve the issue.

While waiting, remove any significant possessions close to the leak, and clean up any water or put a bucket to catch any drips. If you have turned the mains water off, also switch off the hot water heating as well.

Help, I don�t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
